John Brennan Wildlife Art

John Brennan is an award-winning artist working from his studio in Lutz Florida. He has a B.A. from the University of South Florida School of Music. John’s work has been displayed in museum exhibitions, prestigious shows, magazine covers, and private collections throughout Florida, the United States and abroad. He has also worked on public projects for the Clearwater Jazz Holiday and the National Flute Association. His work has raised tens of thousands of dollars for wildlife conservation through state duck stamps and international organizations like Ducks Unlimited. John’s 2010 win in the Oklahoma Waterfowl Stamp Contest makes him the youngest person to do so in State Duck Stamp history. In May of 2014, he became one of the youngest artists ever juried into the prestigious Society of Animal Artists.

Growing up on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten, John grew fond of the beauty of nature, which has inspired his artistic career. After moving to the United States, he quickly became involved in both the musical and visual arts. His early education brought significant accomplishments in both areas including his performance at Carnegie Hall with the Patel Conservatory, as well as becoming the youngest artist to ever get accepted into the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts at the age of 17.

That same year, he met the renowned wildlife artist Ernest C. Simmons. John's National Junior Duck Stamp entry had won best of show in Florida, and Simmons was one of the judges. After getting an invitation to paint with Simmons, John quickly became close and a mentorship was formed. John painted with Simmons in his studio for the next 4 years while attending the University of South Florida in pursuit of a music degree. His artistic successes were matched in his musical endeavors as he held the seat of principle flute in both the USF Wind Ensemble and the USF Symphony Orchestra.

Now a graduate of the USF School of Music, John works as a full-time artist selling commissioned works, exhibiting in prestigious museum shows and state art festivals. He has been on the jury for the International Miniature art Show, and has served as a judge for the Florida Jr. Duck Stamp Contest several times. John is a big proponent of wildlife conservation and his artistic contributions have raised tens of thousands of dollars to help purchase and preserve wetlands across the United States. He is regarded as a force within the artistic world for his dedication and skill at the young age of 26.
